VW New Beetle

I sold my 1992 Eagle Talon a couple years ago. I was sick of everybody trying to race me so I decided to get rid of it. I was thinking of many different kinds of cars to get but I had several problems. The first problem was my height, since I am 6' 6" then it is difficult for me to find a car that I can fit in very well. This left out a lot of cars like most all sport compacts and even some trucks. I thought about a Prelude but when I figured all the stuff I wanted to do to it, I then I thought I would end up with people trying to race me again. I can't leave a car alone, I want to modify it and that would just spell trouble. I thought about getting a newer non-turbo Talon, which had good prices but again, I would have to modify it. So after much thought I decided to look at the New Beetles. For a small car they have the best head and leg room of any car I have ever driven, including my wife's Blazer ZR-2. The Beetle was difficult to find. It seemed that everywhere I looked they were selling within a week or so. I found this one in the local paper and bought it the next day. The color is a dark blue which looks almost purple in some lighting conditions. It is a very cool color. After getting the oxygen sensor recall done on the car I am now waiting to perform other mods to it. As to what I don't know, but it should be fun.

I installed a new Alpine cd player in the car as well as fixing some little things. I am going to soon upgrade my vacuum hoses to blue silicone ones, because the braided lines used are not very long lasting. I am having a trouble code on the computer about every other day and it has to do with the secondary air system. After reading some postings on the newbeetle.org site I thought I would change these lines first and hopefully that will cure the problem. I recently got a VAG-COM adaptor for my laptop and the software. You can do anything like change locking the doors and radio controls to reading error codes and lots of other stuff. It was a good price for the amount of stuff that I can do with it, because no one in town has a VAG-COM device except the VW dealer. I don't really want to drive to Ann Arbor every time the check engine light comes on so I figured this would be better.

As of 2008:

I replaced the rims on my New Beetle with 18 inch Konig Holes. I think the difference is amazing. I went with a slightly larger tire so the ride would be less harsh. It feels great and I think it really makes the car look much better. In the next few weeks I am going to be updatting several things on the car, interior wise. I have some chrome goodies and recently aquired a spray of the color of the car so I can start to paint interior pieces the same color.
