EuroTec Motors

I recently took my car into Eurotec in Ann Arbor, MI to solve a driving problem I was having with my car. I wrote a couple messages on rennlist and received only a couple reply's. I had done almost everything I could think of to the car at that point, so I was desperate. One reply was from Jim B. at 928 International to replace my air flow meter with a used unit. That didn't work so I decided to take it to a real mechanic. Again, I asked on rennlist and received a few reply's. The two choices were Eurotech in Ann Arbor or Auto Europe in Bloomfield Hills. Since I am closer to Ann Arbor and received more than three positive references to Eurotec, I decided to take it there.
I never heard anything about the car so I finally decided to call them. In about two weeks I called the person working on the car and he said they needed more than the original allocated diagnostic time to further investigate the problem. I authorized 3 hours to begin with at $80 an hour. I then authorized 8 more hours, upon his suggestion, and I also asked if he would keep me better informed on the progress of my car. He said that he was consistently busy and that he would try and keep me more informed. Another week went by and still no call. So again; I called him. He said that he fixed the problem and was working on the paperwork. I just thought to myself, why didn't I receive a call telling me that the problem was fixed? It took 2 days and four phone calls (on my part) later to get the final price. All that was wrong with the car were the new spark plugs I had just installed. He also said that since I gave him a list of the repairs that I performed, that he didn't look at the spark plugs from the beginning. The plugs I used were the Bosch dual platinums and he said that he has never had good experiences with them, so he replaced them with Bosch single point silver tipped plugs. The final bill was in the 7 hundreds and so without complaining I told him I would pick it up on Monday morning.
He told me of two other problems that he noticed with the car and some possible solutions to fix them. The first problem was when idleing the car would tend to miss every once in a while. He thought this was due to a clogged fuel injector and gave me a free bottle of Techron fuel injector cleaner, to help. The second problem was when the car was accelerating with the engine cold, the car would hesitate and not put out any power. It only lasts for about a minute which is tolerable for me but, he said that the possible solution would be one of the temperature sensors on the engine.
It has been a week now and the car is running perfect. Even better than when I first got it, minus the new small problems. It seems to have better gas milage and also starts a lot better. I noticed on the bill that there were several other tasks that were performed. He made sure the timing was correct, and adjusted the CO gases. Other smaller items he fixed were some grounds that were loose or bad and a full electrical diagnostic check. I must say that I am quite happy with the way this situation turned out, even though I wasn't when it was happening. Rennlist members helped me understand this situation from many point of views, such as the mechanics, a previous customers, the annoying customers, etc... If I were to have a problem like this in the future, I would probably take it back to him again. The wait is long and it is annoying not to recieve any phone calls on the car, but with 30 years experience and knowledge with parts such as the dual platinum plugs, the car is almost garaunteed to get fixed.
I think that it may have been easier on the mechanic and my wallet if I had written down the names and part numbers that I used when replacing the parts. If I need to get a tune up or automatic transmision fluid changed or anything of the sort, I will take the car back to him, because they seem to kick cars out right and left easily when the problem is just a simple one. If the problem is more complex like mine, expect it to be a while and make sure you keep contact with the mechanic, but don't be frustrated. Try and be understanding and call maybe once or twice a week, and you will get better service and your car will come back to you faster.
Jager Engineering is located somewhere in Canada and packages can sometimes take a while to get, but when they arrive you will be stunned! Great stainless steal and aluminum covers for the light switches, handbrake lever, and even the center air vent are available. They offer an excellent leather boot solution to take away the rather ugly sliding thing that is used for automatics. There is a special device that they created that is SIMPLE to install, that goes between the in between crossmember and oil pan. It helps reduce fatigue on motor mounts and vibration from dying motor mounts. It is not a solution for dead motor mounts however! They have an excellent PDF file on timing belt service here. I mean this place offers almost everything. Great quality, excellent and friendly service and great prices.
Everything comes with super instructions. Easy to follow and most everything takes just a few minutes, with the exception of the leather kits. I encourage everyone to take a look at this website, cause it will put your interior into the 21st century.
